EnhanceFitness is a lively and interactive hour-long class fitness class filled with variety. Based on scientific research and input from older adults, EnhanceFitness is one of the most effective fitness classes ever offered. To ensure safety, each exercise was developed by experts in the field of physical therapy, in conjunction with agencies serving older adults. Classes will be lead by a energetic, certified instructor. TheEnhanceFitness classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:30p.m. The class is free to attend thanks to a grant from CICOA Aging and In-Home Services and the YMCA.
BETTER BALANCE class is specifically designed to help prevent falls. It works on strengthening leg muscles to create “muscle memory” and also work on strengthening the muscles in your ankles. You will gain greater flexibility and balance and be better prepared to respond more quickly to a potential fall. The DVD is 30 minutes and includes 3 different levels of the routine. The class is held: Monday, Tuesday & Thursdays at 1:30pm, beginning October 3rd. There is no fee to attend.
STRONG FOR LIFE
Strong for Life is a strengthening exercise program designed by physical therapists for use by older adults to improve strength, balance and overall health. The program uses resistance bands to target specific muscles that are important in every day movements, such as getting out of a chair and walking. The class is held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Tuesday and Friday. The class is free.
ARTHRITIS FIT CLASS
Do you have arthritis? Exercise is one of the best things you can do to keep those joints loose and moving. Arthritis Fit is a sit-down arthritis exercise class offered five days a week at 10:00a.m. in the Fitness Center. The class is designed for individuals with all levels of arthritis issues. During the course of the 30 minute class you will work just about every joint in your body. The class is free and all seniors are invited to participate.
LOOSE AS A GOOSE
Loose As A Goose, is an amazing low impact chair aerobics program featuring Lee Jay Nelson. Developed for senior citizens, it combines stretching exercises, a lot of laughing, and calisthenics with music that energizes you and makes working out fun while enhancing your cardiovascular health and you never have to leave your chair! The class is held Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 9:00a.m., and is free to attend.
WALK WITH EASE
The Walk with Ease program is an exercise program that can reduce pain and improve overall health. If you can be on your feet for 10 minutes without increased pain, you can have success with Walk with Ease. The program was developed using evidence-based strategies aimed to help those with or without arthritis form walking groups. The goal is to reduce pain, increase balance and strength, and build confidence. The group meets for six weeks, three times per week. Sessions are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. Each session will last about an hour. There is no charge to participate. 6 week sessions are held 3 times per year.
Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the stance of the practitioner. While seated on chairs, participants can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends. In addition to a good stretch, chair yoga participants can also enjoy other health benefits of yoga, including improved muscle tone, better breathing habits, reduction of stress, better sleep, and a sense of well-being. Classes are on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. The yoga class is free to attend.
