CFS: Cardio-Strength-Flexibility

Cardio-Strength-Flexibility (CSF) focuses on strengthening hearts, increasing muscle strength, and maintaining muscle movement.  Taught by our popular chair yoga instructor, Jan Dorsey, the class will focus on functional, practical exercises designed to improve stamina, strength, and movement, and can assist in weight loss when done in conjunction with healthy eating.  Regardless of one’s personal fitness level, CSF will provide the flexibility within each class to help students improve individual fitness by starting at their current activity level and gradually increasing the intensity level over time. Exercises will be provided at multiple levels of difficulty, so individuals can select the one that best suits their own ability. Most exercises can be done standing or sitting on a chair for individuals with balance issues. Students will be encouraged to gradually increase the kinds of exercises they do each week as they gain confidence and experience improvement in their abilities to complete daily household and life tasks. CSF will be as easy or challenging as the individual wants to make it.  There is no fee to attend.   The class is held: Thursdays at 11:00 a.m.

Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people who cannot stand or lack the mobility to move easily from standing to seated to supine positions. Many of the basic body mechanics of the individual postures are retained, no matter the stance of the practitioner. While seated on chairs, participants can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends. In addition to a good stretch, chair yoga participants can also enjoy other health benefits of yoga, including improved muscle tone, better breathing habits, reduction of stress, better sleep, and a sense of well-being. Classes are on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. The yoga class is free to attend.
